Casa Teo – I stayed at Casa Teo 1 for most of my days in CDMX and loved how it felt like a tranquil refuge in a city that is otherwise active and lively. The two beautifully minimalist apartments by acclaimed Mexican chef Enrique Olvera (he used to live in one himself) sit in the heart of the Polanco district. They are spacious and were originally designed to host visiting chefs from around the world, which shows in the incredibly well-equipped open kitchen and the expansive cookbook library.

Ultramarinos Demar – This gem is as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the stomach. Shining like the scales of a rainbow fish, it serves some of the freshest seafood in Mexico City: oysters, crabs, crudos. Blending into the business-lunch crowd, we skipped the business and went straight for shrimp cocktails and mezcalitas. The hottest new wellness temple – literally

There’s close to zero intel about Sant Roch, the wellness temple set to open in the prestigious 1st arrondissement of Paris. And yet, the few things we do know already speak volumes. For starters, the man behind it all is Olivier Leone, a creative director who also happens to own the extremely stylish – and delicious – Japanese restaurants Onii-san, Ojii, and Bar Omi. What’s more, the concept of Sant Roch revolves around saunas and ice baths – something that, by now, caters to athletes and aspiring wellness gurus alike. As for its communication strategy, the tone is fashionably minimal: under the strategic helm of (fashion) PR expert Lucien Pagès, the few images released so far simply hint at an incredibly chic environment. JW Anderson’s Homeware Curation

If you think your year started at full throttle, imagine being Jonathan Anderson and having 18 collections waiting to be designed by you. One of the most diligent creative directors working today – and with three consecutive «Designer of the Year» awards, surely one of the most talented – Anderson’s also a reliable indicator of where fashion is headed next. While much attention is on his new stunt at Dior, I am mostly fascinated by the expansion of his own brand universe at JW Anderson: Rather than evolving through clothing alone, he’s adding layers via art, craft and objects, either designed by him, or in collaboration with the best in their field, such as Nicholas Mosse pottery, Laguna~B glassware, or Hillbrush brushes. His newly opened London store reflects exactly that: conceived like a home, with fashion only playing a supporting role to ceramics, cushions, furniture, and artworks, it’s a presentation of «things that I either want to wear or want to live with», says Anderson. In my universe, however, leveling up the season usually means one particular thing: hitting the road again. Determined to make the month count, I treated myself to Christmas shopping in Paris. I was craving original gifts, low winter sun, and plenty of hot chocolate. And with the TGV Lyria connecting Zurich to Paris in just a few seamless hours – 04h04, to be precise –, there’s really nothing easier than that, right?

E. Dehillerin - Two centuries old and beloved by professionals, this kitchenware institution sells everything from brass pots to baking molds to cannelé trays. It’s a wonderland for (aspiring) chefs and pastry lovers. edehillerin.fr

Astier De Villatte - A Parisian dreamworld of artisanal ceramics, printing presses, books, and perfumes. Le Bon Marché - Much like Merci - but on a far grander scale - Le Bon Marché has everything you can imagine and then some. Wander freely, but don’t miss the seasonal pop-up on the ground floor and the fashion section, where contemporary brands are curated with a precision I don’t find anywhere else. lebonmarche.com

La Grande Épicerie - The food emporium of Le Bon Marché, this is a place where you easily lose another hour - think cheeses, spices, jams, chocolates and other gems from all around the world. Marin Montagut - This charming boutique is filled with hand-painted porcelain, glassware, textiles, and stationery by artist Marin Montagut, with most pieces celebrating little Parisian scenes. marinmontagut.com

Day 3 - Art & Activities

A workshop at Rrraw Cacao Factory – If you want to use your hands for something other than tapping your credit card at the register, treat yourself to an artisanal workshop — provided you can choose between ceramics, wine tasting, or a cheese degustation in the first place. I spent an afternoon with chocolatier Sébastien and a group of locals, rolling truffles through cacao nibs while absorbing the history and savoir-faire. Bourse de Commerce - The Pinault collection is always worth a visit, but the current exhibition «Minimal» is particularly soothing. Get a ticket for right when the museum opens - the serenity is part of the experience. pinaultcollection.com

Fondation Cartier - The new Jean Nouvel–designed home of the Fondation Cartier sits opposite the Louvre and is an easy detour if you’re coming from the Marais and heading west. The architecture alone is worth a moment! fondationcartier.com

Winter Restaurants

Chez Georges - For a quintessential French dining experience, this is the spot. I celebrated my birthday here in January and can’t wait to go back. 1 Rue du Mail, 75002 Paris.

Bar Omi - The new restaurant from the crowd behind Ojii - another place I highly recommend - is a chic, intimate sushi bar that attracts a stylish crowd. Start the night with a Wasabi Margarita, and end it with the home made black sesame Mochi. baromi.fr

Cheval d’Or - I first tried this address on my last trip to Paris, and it still sits at the back of my mind. The cuisine is a delicious blend of Chinese and French, the atmosphere a perfect mix of elegant and cozy, and the attention to detail truly astonishing. chevaldorparis.com

Colère - Recommended to me by a local, the second outpost of newcomer chef Eloi Spinnler serves heartwarming dishes in an elegant setting. Think red rice cacio e pepe, pink trout kissed by the flame, a creamy duck parmentier… and then the cheesecake for dessert. bonaloi.com

I’ve always preferred giving gifts over receiving them. It’s not that I don’t appreciate this kind of love language – quite the opposite – but my taste has always been specific enough that I’d rather get nothing than something that doesn’t quite hit home. Breakfast with IRMA

I’m not big on rituals, but if there’s one thing I find myself doing almost every weekend, it’s grabbing a copy of the FT, settling into a café, and making Jo Ellison’s opinion my own. More often than not, this ritual is a solo affair (if you think you can compete with HTSI, be my guest, ha). Lately, though, my company has been Irma. Not only is she a newly opened breakfast café in my neighborhood in Zurich, it’s also the name of the founder’s grandmother—and my own late Grosi. I’m sure she would have loved the place: they bake their own sourdough bread (and the fluffiest sourdough brioches), use fresh, carefully sourced produce (vegetarian only), have a perfectly curated breakfast menu, and brew excellent coffee, too. GAME, gourmet, and great hospitality

Last week, I was invited to a three-day retreat at the Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel in Austria. The family-run house has long been on my bucket list, so when the opportunity landed in my inbox, I confirmed my attendance within seconds. Our stay, organized by hospitality collective Ferus, revolved around all things game meat: we went wildlife spotting, attended a masterclass in sustainable processing, and indulged in a very meaty dinner. In between, there were hikes through breathtaking landscapes, dips in the pool, sauna sessions, a 16-course dinner at their fine dining restaurant, Chef’s Table (an absolute must), and plenty of stories told by Joschi Walch, who runs the place with his wife and three adult children. Of all the things that impressed me (and there were many), it was his curiosity and openness that moved me most. With the podcast Train Train Pas Quotidien in my ears, I got ready for my mission to catch the city’s hottest newbies: the places to be, dishes to try, beds to sleep in, and things to (window) shop. I chatted with locals, walked 30k steps in a day, and paused to watch the golden morning light spill across the Jardin des Tuileries. And because work is life and life is work, I reassured myself that Paris is the chicest remote office there is. After all, if one thing’s for certain, it’s that no email finds you quite like it does in Paris.

The new kid on the Pigalle block is where the cool & creative check in.

Hotel Massé – The new boutique hotel in Pigalle stuns with 40 minimalist bedrooms, impeccable interiors, bespoke artworks, and a guest list that has IYKYK written all over it. Conceived by first-time hoteliers Corto and Éole Peyron and designed by Festen alumni Juliette Gasparetto and Julie Parenti, the Haussmannian building feels like a hub for taste, creativity, and warmth. Every detail is considered — the hotel partners with local artisans and suppliers, from breakfast pastries by Le Pain Retrouvé to Typology toiletries and boutique chocolatier PLAQ. Though it’s a 25-minute walk from where I usually stay, it more than lived up to the hype. With prices refreshingly reasonable, I’d happily return any time of year. When the laptops close, the real Paris opens.

Casa Pregonda – Mix Menorcan seaside simplicity with Parisian chic, and you’ll find yourself at the newly opened Casa Pregonda in the 2ᵉ arrondissement. Here, chef Alexandre Giesbert channels sun and sea into every plate — think croquetas and crudos, Jamón Ibérico, black rice with shrimp, and a perfectly creamy tortilla. Grab a spot at the white-tiled counter if you’re dining à deux, or go with a group, order the whole menu, and share a bunch of carafes of sangria. casapregonda.com

Café de L’Usine – Set in a converted shoe factory, this two-floor bistro in Belleville combines loft aesthetics with an easy, all-day vibe. Chef Alice Arnoux serves ever-changing tasting menus centered on seasonal harvests and produce — simple, focused, and full of flavor. I loved the three-course lunch (EUR 30), drawn from a more extensive dinner lineup (EUR 55), which felt both refined and down to earth. cafedelusine.fr

A la Renaissance – Quintessentially Parisian, this revamped 1919 bistro-bar has quickly become a favorite for those who come for dinner and stay for the vibes. Start with the steak tartare (great fries!), then move on to martinis — also available in «baby» size — or, depending on the night, go the other way around. CAFÉS

The all-day hangouts that are made for refueling — body, mind, imagination.

Fauna – The Scandinavian-inspired café on Rue Oberkampf has been around for a few months, but I’ve yet to find a place where I’d rather spend my mornings. They serve perfect breakfast and brunch plates, a green juice that tastes like just the right amount of green, and cinnamon buns so juicy they’ve reached souvenir status. @faunaparis

Wani – Just steps from Le Bon Marché, this little gem of a coffee shop serves Japanese teas, specialty coffee, and fully organic meals by chef Sugio Yamaguchi. The intimate, 10-seat space is filled with curiosities and haikus, offering plenty to discover while refueling between shopping sprees. @wani_paris

Café Nuances – The newest outpost of Café Nuances in the Marais is as much a visual experience as a caffeine fix. Designed by Harry Nuriev of Crosby Studios, the predominantly silver cube feels like an art gallery in outer space. It’s too very instagrammable — but still worth sneaking a peek. cafenuances.com

Minicafé – A coffee and cookie at Minicafé, the tiny hole-in-the-wall on Île Saint-Louis, has become a necessary stop on my walks from Rive Droite to Rive Gauche. Their new outpost on Rue des Barres isn’t quite as mini, but charms just the same with an outdoor terrace, beautiful interiors, and a proper brunch menu. @minicafeparis

Monocle Café – The Paris equivalent of the Zurich-based café, press, and concept store has quickly become a favorite for digital nomads and well-traveled creatives. Set on picturesque Rue Bachaumont, with plenty of inspiration all around, it’s the kind of place where emails find you extra well. monocle.com

SHOPS

… because no trip to Paris is complete without some retail romance!

Rubirosa’s – Step into this small but exceptionally chic new store in Saint-Germain and be reminded of what retail *should* be: an experience, a story, a universe. The brainchild of jewelry designer Lauren Rubinski and creative director Louis-Charles Aka, Rubirosa’s specializes in unisex cashmere sweaters, shirts, pajamas, and the softest leather slippers — all crafted in impeccable quality and a rainbow of colors. La Romaine Editions – I’ve long admired Pauline Vincent’s tableware and home accessories, so visiting her first standalone boutique was high on my discovery list. Making (& Baking)

My sweet tooth is never on vacation – especially not in summer. I baked my way through the month with cakes for birthdays, dinners with friends, and sometimes just because. This summer cherry pie from my fellow Substacker Flora Manson was a success three times in a row – I made it twice with cherries, then with seasonal plums. I think you could swap in any summer fruit and it would still be a hit. I also whipped up a giant pavlova for my godson’s birthday, for which I used this recipe for the meringue and Elif’s for the cream & berry topping.

On the savory side, I’ve been inspired by Beth from Borough Chef, a channel I’m loving lately. Her recipes are usually heavy on veggies, comforting, and weeknight-friendly—the kind of stuff I’m craving after a long day. And, as with everything else, they’re best when made with fresh market produce.

Wearing

An August favorite was this long skirt and these ballet flats from Sézane. I hadn’t worn a long skirt since primary school but always thought it looked cute on others – so I gave it another shot. The flats are so perfect they were sold out instantly online, but knowing Sézane, they’ll be back so make sure to set your alarms.

These new VIU sunglasses were kindly gifted to me and are called «The Wifey». Even though I don’t quite qualify, I do appreciate that they visually double as reading glasses and therefore make me look cool *and* smart.

These off-white barrel jeans by Friends of Frank proved to work well on chillier days. The Australian brand that I only discovered this year has a really good selection of nice transitional pieces – cardigans, shirts and coats. I’ve also been eyeing this chocolatey trench coat for fall.

A jewelry staple that I get the most compliments on is this Moon stone ring. I wear it almost every day, and it was surprisingly affordable.

Finally, this Tekla beach bag has been everywhere with me this month – from lake swims to tennis practice. It fits a million things. I went with the black sand colorway, which feels classic enough to carry year-round.

Listening

Olivia Dean has basically been the soundtrack to my summer. I usually lean towards male voices (I first came across her on this duet with Sam Fender), but she’s quickly won me over. Her lyrics are fun and flirty, her visuals a 10/10 and her fits – a dream. Give her stylist a raise already!

Playing

… Tennis!!! All thanks to the team at Lacoste, The Dolder Grand Hotel, and the lovely Sophie and Laura who kindly invited me to join the «Lacoste Tennis Community Zurich». Every week and along with a fun group of people, I got to play on the chicest court in town, was trained by an endlessly patient and passionate trainer, all while wearing a series of cute little Lacoste dresses. Beyond being a personal dream come true, this initiative was also a masterclass in how brand collaborations should be done these days (we even landed an AD Magazine feature!).

Watching

I went to see Materialists the day it came out. Why? Because I expected it to be hot, quick-witted, and intelligent—with a side of Pedro Pascal and Dakota Johnson’s perfect bangs (pun intended). Instead, it was none of the above. Not funny, not smart, and definitely not Past Lives. Honestly, the best thing about this movie was the promo campaign.

Couples Therapy, on the other hand, I devoured in what, two days? I’ve become a bit of a psychology nerd, so watching badass New York therapist Orna Guralnik untangle the dynamics of four real-life couples was quite the treat. There are already four seasons, and you can jump in anywhere—I started with #4 and worked backwards. Also, no episode runs longer than 30 minutes, which adds a surprising lightness to the subject.

Last but not least, I watched Sentimental Value on the epic Piazza Grande in Locarno. I’ve loved Norwegian director Joachim Trier ever since The Worst Person in the World, so my expectations were…high. Maybe too high? The story—two adult sisters reconnecting with their father after their mother’s death—does dig deep into family dynamics, but I felt like the depiction could’ve been tighter. That said, I’ll happily watch Renate Reinsve in anything.

Eating

This month, I found myself at Brasserie Lipp, twice. In the frenzy of new openings, we sometimes forget about the classics, so it felt nice to be back for both a work event and a family celebration. The first time, we shared a bunch of French staples; the second, I went for their signature Moules et Frites (very solid). And of course, my mum and I had to try the profiteroles for dessert. Honestly, they’re reason enough to return. My friend Sibille says it’s the best dessert in Zurich—and if anyone knows, it’s her.

For a fun, casual counterpoint, I also hit up Soi Thai, Zurich’s yearly OG pop-up that I try to visit at least once every summer. The menu changes regularly but is reliably delicious—flavorful, perfectly spicy, and perfect for sharing. The vibe is buzzy, the chairs are plastic, and the energy makes it a good spot for a night out with friends or a casual date. I always start with a Frozé Slushy, which makes me both hungry and tipsy—but luckily, the set menu means you can just sit back and dive in. Go before they close on the 14th of September!

Using

I’m usually hesitant to try (let alone recommend) new beauty products, but this serum and this sleeping mask from the newly launched skincare brand Neuraé have won me over—which basically never happens. I first tested them on a press trip, and they’ve been good to me ever since. The brand focuses on neuroscience and the impact of textures and scents on the brain, which not only makes for a good story but also feels refreshingly different. As for the products: the serum is soft, hydrating, and lightweight, while the sleeping mask not only soothes my skin but might even help me sleep better. Or so I like to believe.

In terms of make-up, this Fara Homidi lip compact not only comes with gorgeous packaging but also has the perfect shade of pink. On the lip, it’s nude enough to stay subtle, yet deep enough to contour, and the matte finish feels like a nice break from all the ultra-glossy lips out there. Plus, the balm adds just the right amount of shine on top.

COPENHAGEN crush

No one does fashion quite like the Scandis. At the recently wrapped Copenhagen Fashion Week, there was much to love—but what stays with me every time is their approach to womenswear. In their book, femininity is soft and light but never fragile; refined and styled but always wearable and self-evident. It doesn’t find apparent beauty boring, yet it still challenges our perception of it. Romance is often paired with a dose of functionality or sportiness—but then again, we’re talking about a place where mothers cycle their kids to school in 2K Cecilie Bahnsen dresses. Scandi designers also proudly dress every body type, age group, and skin color, and they make everyone LOOK GOOD (isn’t that the point?). Not to mention their commitment to sustainability… @The World of Fashion, take big, fat, bold notes.

• Skip the plane – take the train! During the summer months, Marseille can now be reached via TGV Lyria with a direct train from Lausanne (the route runs via Geneva, with stops in Aix-en-Provence and Avignon, among others). The line operates daily during peak season and will continue to do so from April to October next year. • In Marseille, you’ll find trams, a metro, and buses, but most places are within a 20–30-minute walking distance – the best way to explore any new city. Ubers are also quite affordable.

• Most of the coolest spots are just steps from the port or clustered around Cours Julien, a colorful, alternative quarter. In summer, however, the Malmousque seaside district is the place to be. Ideally, split your stay between the waterfront and somewhere more lively and central.

• Despite initial concerns, I felt completely safe at all times and would happily visit the city solo. That said, mindfulness is always key.

• Plan for at least three days. Even better: five. Ideally? A whole month in summer!

Les Chambres de La Relève – Four pretty, individually designed and affordable guest rooms, plus one apartment, located right next to Bar de la Relève – a lively day-to-night hotspot in its own right. Perfect for a central stay with everything within walking distance.

Tuba Club – This one arguably played a big role in putting Marseille on everyone’s bucket list. Poissonnerie Kennedy – Hands down, my favorite meal and overall experience. Located on the main boulevard in the seaside Malmousque quarter, the place was recently revamped by a team of renowned restaurateurs and now shines as an effortlessly cool indoor/outdoor space – industrial yet chic, serving exactly the kind of food I could eat every single day. Go for the whole fish with sides, or do as we did and sample your way through the snacks and appetizers. 10/10. @poissonneriekennedymarseille

À Moro – Recommended to me by a Parisian who insisted that if I had only one lunch in Marseille, it had to be here. This lively, rustic Italian institution, tucked away in a central alley, offers an exceptionally fair lunch deal – EUR 23 / 26 for two or three courses. While the chalkboard menu makes its way from table to table, I’m 99% sure you can’t really go wrong. Just order the pasta that makes your heart skip a beat and call it a day. @amoromarseille

Friche de l’Escalette – A mind-blowing art site, gallery, and sculpture park set among the ruins of an abandoned factory. Acquired in 2011 by Parisian art dealer Éric Touchaleaume of Galerie 54, it is currently open during the summer and by appointment only. We enjoyed a private tour of the collection that is full of Prouvé, Perriand & Co., and were led by the owner’s son, who plans to add a tapas bar, guest rooms, and an artist residency by next year. friche-escalette.com

Cité Radieuse by Le Corbusier – The impressive housing complex designed as a «vertical city» by the iconic architect. Visitors can explore two of the nine floors, as well as parts of the rooftop. Maison Empereur – An iconic kitchenware store that truly has everything—and in every size. From paella pans as big as a human being to cannelé and pie dishes in all shapes and forms, this is just the beginning. empereur.fr

Summer in Zurich always turns me into a weird person. Everyone says it, and I don’t disagree. I don’t particularly love hanging out by the lake. I don’t buy the season pass for the Badi. I don’t love the heat, the sweaty skin, the sunscreen, or sitting skin-on-skin with people I don’t know. When everyone becomes more social, I become anti. Don’t you dare ask me to go swimming with you on a Saturday.

And yet, my tan can easily compete with everyone else’s. Why? Because the second I step on foreign ground, I’m the one lying in the blazing sun for hours on end. I’ll jump out of bed at sunrise. I’m so full of energy, no one knows where I get it from. I don’t mind the heat, and I replace the word sweat with glow. I’m pretty fun to be around—just take me far away from home.

When it comes to my private trips, I, too, like to go against the grain. I prefer raw and wild to polished and fancy, secluded bays to buzzy beach clubs, and I will always choose a local taverna over an influencer-approved restaurant (people dancing on chairs give me the ick). In fact, few things satisfy me more than discovering places that still fly a bit under the radar. And judging by your responses to my recent trip to Greece, I have a feeling you and I are made of the same stuff.

On that note, here’s a list of destinations I’m currently eyeing for my next getaway. They are mostly off the beaten track, some up north, others down south. They come with history and stories, generous hospitality, delicious food, and unique landscapes. I also did my best to suggest spots which are reasonably priced, and still fabulously great in the late summer.

Which feeds perfectly into the second quintessential thing you need to know about me: I never commit to a trip more than a month in advance (sorry, friends).

Hotel Le Provençal, Hyères

I keep stumbling across this seaside hotel in the South of France. Nestled on the edge of the Giens Peninsula just off Hyères, Le Provençal is a true gem, with a natural pool that looks straight out of a Slim Aarons postcard. Founded in the 1950s by Marius Michel—a celebrated Parisian chef who returned home to craft his Riviera dream—I love that it’s still family-run today, attracting a crowd that moves between creative and culinary disciplines. The recent makeover by interior architect Rodolphe Parente only adds to the charm.

Come for the food, stay for the VIBES

When it comes to restaurants, there are places everyone waited for, places no one waited for, and places you didn’t even know you were waiting for. And although the opening of Capet Neo Bistro was eagerly anticipated (it’s the second venture from the team behind Silex), it was only after my visit that I realized that I had been craving a gem just like this. Renovated and opened in what felt like a heartbeat, Capet builds on the concept of its older sibling: contemporary dishes, excellent wines, sustainably sourced. At Capet, just off Idaplatz, the plates are every bit(e) as delicious—perhaps a tad more approchable, a bit more neo. But what truly stood out to me was the atmosphere: a large communal table allows you to sit side by side rather than across from one another (game changer); the space is beautifully designed (co-owner Julia von Meiss has impeccable taste), and has pitch-perfect acoustics. And if you arrive at just the right time, you’ll catch it bathed in golden evening light. Bring a friend, a date—or, just as satisfying, let the fluffiest bread be your best company.

The many lives of MATTHEW

Last weekend, I randomly came across a picture of Matthew McConaughey’s «10 Goals in Life»—a list the actor scribbled in 1992. It’s simple («Become a father» / «Take more risks»), meaningful («Chase my best self» / «Look back and enjoy the view»), and it sent me down a rabbit hole filled with videos, podcasts, and iconic award speeches. (Not sure if this adds anything to it, but «The Wedding Planner» was my favorite movie as a teenager.) By evening, I had his 2020 memoir «Greenlights» in my cart. And, as it turns out, Matthew is the man. Inspiring. Smart. Thoughtful. Surprising. An incredible storyteller. And, dare I say, funny as f***. So much so that I became the person I swore I’d never be: someone who publicly reads a book and cracks up while doing so. Matthew had me at page 1. What a livin’ legend.

A couple of weeks ago, I was approached by TGV Lyria, who invited me to explore some French destinations through the lens of Be My Guest. I don’t think the train line needs an introduction, but I will say this: out of the 50+ times I’ve traveled to Paris so far, I’ve probably taken the TGV 48 of them. So I’d like to believe I manifested this.

Here’s issue 1 of 4 from our joint travel series, where I explore both familiar and new French destinations — all just one train ride away. First up: the city of Dijon in the Burgundy region. Just three hours from Zurich, getting there truly feels like hopping on and off a time machine — thanks to the 320 km/h speed, the royal treatment of the new Première Signature class (we may or may not have treated ourselves to champagne at 11 a.m.), as well as the delicious meal (a designated menu, elaborated by chefs Michel Roth and Danny Khezzar, includes brunch, snacks, or a full 3 course menu depending your travel schedule), served comfortably at your seat. Pair that with the beautiful views of yellow rapeseed fields, and by the time you reach your destination, you’ll feel like you’ve just woken up from a dream.

Speaking of food: With Dijon being the origin of the famous mustard, the theme for this issue pretty much presented itself. So here it is: A Foodie’s Guide to Dijon, tried and tested by yours truly (and my dad for that matter, who served as an excellent +1, except when he refused to share dessert?!).

The mains: lunch & dinner

Monique, Boire et Manger – Let’s start with the best: lunch at Monique’s, which was the culinary highlight of my trip. Tucked away in a charming alley in the old town, this unpretentious and welcoming spot serves a delicious three-course lunch (€28), with two options per course to choose from. They have a strong focus on seasonal, fresh, and raw ingredients, homemade cooking, and full transparency about the origins of their produce (as local as possible), and the menu changes weekly. Ours featured glazed carrots with mustard ice cream, lemon cream, and Parmesan crumble, followed by mashed potatoes with a white asparagus emulsion, grilled chard, egg yolk, blue cheese, and a walnut crumble. Spica – We spontaneously booked this place for dinner and were surprised to find the cool couple we’d met at Chez Bruno (read on) sitting next to us again—which usually means you’re in the right spot, correct? At Spica, a cozy bistro near the Halles market square, you’ll discover the refined, creative, yet approachable cuisine of Japanese chef Takaya Uchida, who previously worked in several gourmet restaurants in Tokyo. Think: creamy turnip soup with shrimp, trout roe, Parmesan, and white truffle oil, or a rack of suckling pig with parsnip purée and oyster mushrooms, then local fromages or fraises for dessert. The three-course surprise menu (€43) is paired with Burgundy wines, which is an excellent match. restaurantspica.com

La Menuiserie – Packed with locals and clearly a lunchtime favorite, this locavore café-restaurant serves no-fuss dishes made with ingredients from the Halles de Dijon market. Think lentil and grain salads, fresh focaccia sandwiches, or lamb chops with beans—kind of something you’d make at home, just better. Save room for dessert! lamenuiseriedijon.fr

Cibo – Angelo Ferrigno, head chef at the neo-bistro Cibo, was reportedly the youngest chef in France to receive a Michelin star in 2016. He is highly committed to sustainability and local sourcing, crafting dishes exclusively with ingredients found within a 200-kilometer radius of Dijon. The restaurant leans toward the slightly more upscale side (lunch starts at €55, dinner at €105), but the fact that it was fully booked on a random Tuesday likely speaks for itself. cibo.restaurant

The in-betweens: coffee, cake, wine and snacks

Chez Bruno – This corner bar is the kind of place you’d probably walk past unless you know what’s hiding inside: the most unique bar in Dijon. It’s intimate, a bit dark, and a little messy—dare I say, perfectly French? But if you manage to snag one of the few seats, you’re in for a treat: glasses (or bottles) of delicious natural wine, carefully selected cheeses, and thinly sliced ham carved right in front of you by the eponymous owner. Spend an hour here, and you’ll want to come back the next day; spend an evening, and you’ll leave as friends with everyone. @baravinsbrunodijon

La Causerie des Mondes – A cozy café and tea room that serves snacks all day, but is especially perfect for a coffee and cake break between sightseeing. Beurre Noisette – A boulangerie and pâtisserie in the city center that I’d probably visit every day if I lived there. beurrenoisette.com

Cité de la Gastronomie et du Vin – The complex at the edge of the old town is a cultural and culinary center dedicated to French gastronomy and wine heritage. Walk through the gourmet village or the large wine bar, and you’ll be reminded of why you came here in the first place: the cheeses! The wines! The charcuterie! The bread! The mustard! The best of the rest: Where to stay, what to see & do

Hotel Mama Shelter – Getting a good night’s sleep is always important, especially when you have a lot to digest—literally. Mama Shelter is a fun, affordable, and perfectly located place with colorful interiors and super-friendly staff. From there, everything is within walking distance—even the train station, just 10 minutes away. Definitely your best option. mamashelter.com

Consortium Museum – With mostly historical museums and sights, there are only a few places in Dijon that exude a contemporary energy. One of them is Consortium, an art center housed in a minimalist building designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. In the bright and airy space, a short walk outside of town, it hosts eight exhibitions each year, featuring previous contributions by Jorge Pardo, Yayoi Kusama, and Sylvie Fleury. leconsortium.fr

Les Halles de Dijon – There are few places where you can grasp a city’s vibe better than in the aisles of the local market hall. Les Halles de Dijon, a covered market in the heart of the city, is open most mornings throughout the week, with vendors occasionally spilling into the surrounding streets, creating a lively atmosphere.

My favorite new HIDEAWAY in Switzerland

I seem to have quietly manifested a weekend at The Brecon. I had read and dreamt so much about it that when an invitation fluttered into my inbox, it felt like fate (and a very lucky day!). To my surprise, the 22-room chalet in the mountain village of Adelboden is smaller than I had imagined—but also better. Because beyond its obvious beauty, the true magic lies in the details. It’s not just well-furnished; it’s also filled with incredible books and magazines that I could spend hours reading. The place is all-inclusive, with service just a WhatsApp message away, yet the staff would still come find you and offer drinks by the pool. The food—including the daily four-course surprise dinner—is simple but excellent, prepared in an open kitchen where you can easily ask for the recipes of the dishes you just devoured. Olivier’s MULTIVERSE in Antwerp

I recently had a conversation with a friend about which people and accounts we’d genuinely miss if we deleted Instagram tomorrow. My first thought? Absolutely no one. My second? Maybe Olivier de Croock. A creative director based in Antwerp, everything he captures feels deeply aesthetic, warm, and tasteful. His style leans more quiet than loud, more slow than fast — Gen Z, have I lost you yet? — but there’s something timeless and classy in his eye that resonates with me. A fan of good furniture, delicate blossoms, and excellent F&B, he recently opened Nectar: a French brasserie-inspired bistro, flower shop, and design store all in one. I can’t wait to step inside. Until then, I’ll be admiring from afar.

Marimekko x Laila Gohar: All the Things We Do in Bed

Marimekko, which excelled in its conceptual takeover of a traditional Milanese café last year, has set the bar high for itself. But if anyone is familiar with the concept of the sky is the limit, it’s Laila Gohar. The brand tapped the chef, artist, and founder of Gohar World for a capsule collection inspired by everything we do in bed, and I’m sure it will be the stuff dreams are made of.

Studio KO x Beni Rugs: Intersection

Moroccan brand Beni Rugs, artistically led by interior design genius Colin King, is set to present a collection of ten hand-embroidered and Rabat rugs—supposedly their most complex constructions yet. Created in collaboration with the French architecture firm Studio KO, whose projects include the YSL Museum in Marrakech, Chiltern Firehouse, and Flamingo Estate, the exhibition space is expected to be as exciting as the products themselves.

SOULS and sounds in Paris

There are a few reasons why I went to Paris last week—the new exhibition at the Bourse de Commerce wasn’t one of them. So when I unknowingly squeezed in a visit to Corps et Âmes shortly before my departure, I certainly didn’t expect to be drawn in within seconds. But there I was, standing in the middle of the Pinault Collection’s circular Rotunda, with Arthur Jafa’s video installation Love Is the Message, the Message Is Death (2016) in front of me and Kanye West’s Ultralight Beam in my ears (a critical soundtrack choice, no doubt). I could have spent an hour in that space. And yet, the rest of the exhibition is just as unmissable: Georg Baselitz’s eight hanged men are powerful, Miriam Cahn’s portraits unsettling, Deana Lawson’s photographs captivating. The show as a whole examines the artistic depiction of the body and soul, and that’s precisely where it struck me. On view until August 25.

Jewelry for the TABLE

A fixed point on the aforementioned trip, however, was the second edition of Matter & Shape. Held annually in the Tuileries Gardens, the salon invites visitors to discover the latest collaborations, projects, and standout newcomers in furniture, product, and object design. One of my favorite discoveries this year? The glassware of Justine Menard, a young creator born in Paris and based in Barcelona. Her mouth-blown glasses, vases, and ashtrays take on fluid, organic shapes so delicate that Menard herself describes them as table jewelry, with each piece «retaining its poetry». Speaking of jewelry—Menard originally trained as a bijouterie designer and offers a few exceptional pieces in her online store. I’m just saying: the brooch!!!

The COLORFUL journey of Lea Colombo

At just 32 years old, Lea Colombo’s portfolio is already filled with more achievements than most could dream of in a lifetime. As a photographer, she has Vogue covers and Versace campaigns under her belt. As an artist, she’s had solo exhibitions in L.A., Milan, Paris, and her hometown, Cape Town. As a designer, she has created clothing, jewelry, and, in recent years, furniture—which, in turn, was featured in a Bottega Veneta campaign under Matthieu Blazy. The list goes on. The red thread running through all her work is, indeed, often red—or any other bold color, to which Colombo attributes spiritual power and energy. At her Matter & Shape booth, I couldn’t help but fall head over heels for her Twin Flame dining table. Made of stones like quartz, red jasper, and amethyst, each element «holds a depth of ancient wisdom, color, and texture». I’m moonstruck.

BODE does it better

For once, the most exciting new opening in Paris wasn’t a restaurant or a natural wine bar, but the flagship store of American fashion brand Bode. Located near Palais Royal in the prestigious 1st arrondissement, it’s a rare example of what a boutique should be in today’s world: a creative extension of the brand and an experience so special that you completely lose track of time. At Bode in Paris—a brand young in age but old in soul—you’ll feel right at home. The lighting is low, the walls are wood-paneled, and the antique furniture, partly sourced from Parisian flea markets, is as chic as it gets. The space is filled with objects and curiosities that the team collected with this specific city in mind, long before the store location was found. A display of family photographs add a personal touch–so does the store’s scent, developed by Buly founder Ramdane Touhami. The fact that Aaron Aujla, the founder’s partner and the designer of the space, was there personally to welcome visitors by the door, only added to the charm. Now that’s class.
